  • Jof, glad your building up some quality tools, you won’t regret your investment. I wish I responded earlier but again to maybe help others down the road. I prefer fishtails over straight gouges until I get to about 14-16mm in size. I’m generally not using a mallet much but when I do it’s generally...

I as well, there’s alot cheep stuff out there. You can go to hobbie lobby and get “art” and carving for practically free. I do think it’s funny that most of the pieces people will go crazy over are pieces I spent the least time on and are my least favorite.q...

Arthur I will take your advice, criticism, ect anytime, much appreciated! I guess non of the other vendors sold much except for our friends young daughter. She makes designer pillows with cats, dogs, or other animals. She made over $1,000 after all her and parents expenses. Not bad for a 13 year ol...

Well it didn’t sell for anything lol. My wife signed me up for what she thought was an out door art n craft fair, but it turned out to be a vintage market with most people trying to sell junk they found at the dump. We didn’t sell anything, not one of my paintings or carving, even my wife’s necklaces...

I basically do the same thing. I don’t try to make them feel bad but they should know what kind of deal they got. In sprayfoam insulation the material makes up 60% of the over all price. When I first started out I ended up paying for extra material out of my pocket. Tuff pill to swallow...

  • I’m always nervous with a new piece of wood, mostly because I carve in what most would consider kindling. I hit it with a metal and then a plastic wire brush after I hand planed it a 60mm flat chisel to get out some of the bland saw marks from the mill. I wasn’t really thinking about dirt, sand...

  • I just hit a piece of hard sand in a piece of popler with a pfeil 3/12 fishtail. I can’t believe the size of the scrape(gouge) from the edge of the chisel. It’s about a year old. I do believe the new pfeil are a harder steal than my 30 year old ones. I was using a mallet, something I don’t do...

Btw I loved using a copy cat, that’s what we called them here. I got a lot of spankings when I was a kid for breaking my dads copycat and other tools. Now I only can get a spanking on my Bday lol...

JJF, you are a true master! Thanks so much for sharing. Do you know how many hours you have spent on this piece? All three are amazing! Is this your full time job? I’m trying to sell off my sprayfoam business and still do some house painting but try to fully support muesli and my wife off my sculptures...

  • I’m sorry to agree with you because I like pfeil tools so much but I got a 3f16 this time from WC last year and it was in the same shape as shiz. I brought it back to the crabby woman that was worked there for ever. I said look at this, pfeil stuff has gone done hill. She said that every industry...
