Quick, simple and fun. Sometimes you just need a rewarding project like this to break things up. I just got a new bandsaw, and will be hacking up the pallet it was shipped on too. Been wonderin’ what I oughta make with all of the “free wood.” Thanks for the ideas!

Thank you Dave! I painted this one with watered down acrylic paint on unsealed, wet wood, followed by dry brushing for highlights. Then I antiqued it with BLO which was tinted with about an inch of burnt umber artist oil paint. I finished it by spraying with two coats of matte poly, burnishing with...

Boy, I sure hope so Dave. I think she will though as she reminds me quite regularly that she needs carvings for the Holiday's. I’m happy to oblige!...

Thank you Eddy! I tired a different approach to painting and finishing this time, and am relieved that I didn’t muff it up....

I agree about Doug’s creations, and his videos are the reason that I’m carving. He makes a person believe that if he can do it, then anyone can. Great teacher, and a humble man....

Yes, one of Doug’s patterns. He’s done two scarecrow videos, and this was inspired by the more recent one....

I love these Cottonwood bark lighthouses, and this is a good one. One of these days I’d like to try to replicate a lighthouse from my childhood. Barnegate lighthouse in New Jersey…fond memories of fishing with my uncle near that one.

He looks great Herb! I agree about painting, takes me forever to get one painted, but I do enjoy the process.

A Scarecrow for Mom
I wanted to carve something with a Fall theme for my Mom’s, birthday next week. Lo and behold, Doug Linker posted a Scarecrow carving video in his 1” x 1” series a few weeks ago. So, here is my take on Doug’s design. I made this one 1 1/2” x 1 1/2”…Happy Birthday Mom!

Very nice work Di! I like how the Bird of Paradise and the leading wing of the nene are “escaping” from the frame. Adds a lot to the interest of the composition....

Wish I could be there. I’m going to attempt to carve your Eagle pattern over the Winter, but would much rather learn it directly from you. I hope that they’re all successful and have a good time!
