The American Association of Woodturners will no longer allow fractally burned entries in their competitions.

Colder than stink- so cold you can't smell stink?

We are in the same boat here on the frozen shores of Lake Erie. 'Lake Effect' system has spent the last three days dumping 8+ inches per day, roughly, not that you can tell because the 25 MPH winds pick it up and toss it here then there...

I tested one in the basement next to a two tube 4 foot fluorescent- switched back and forth while looking down at...

  • Prepare your quench- I use a brine solution- One cup of ordinary table salt in a gallon of water. I have read that it has properties nearly the equivalent of oil and it doesn't smoke or burn and stink up the house. I have used this quench for dozens of knives, and I can tell you for sure it works....

  • best cut protection in the world is your eyes, brain, and some sense.

When I started, I did not have any protection. I used to cut myself, some were bad enough I had to set the knife down til I healed, so I bought different kinds of protection.

Looked at all the cuts and gashes...

Plasticut files are made for the plastic laminate industry (formica) they are very good too.

Files in general are made of good steel, but some will not be hard in the center where the edge of the...

  • Steel is just the beginning (RV is on the right track). forging, hardening, tempering, shape and size of bevel all figure into how a knife sharpens and how long it stays that way.

Here's something you may not know about tempering- (the process of slightly softening a fully hardened steel)....

  • looks like a cutom job to me- small to medium wood shop production, wood edged laminate top. Made hundreds like that. Big knee space extra wide 4 drawer bank- doubt you will find that off the shelf.
