Any of you that might whittle when the opportunity presents itself, what do you use for a small, portable strop? I'm thinking maybe wallet sized...anybody care to share ideas!

I haven't tried staining it yet, so I will try the poly suggestion. Stupid question...do you let the 1st coat of poly dry completely before applying the stain?

Forced into an experiment
I attempted a chip carved plate. It was probably too advanced for my skill level, really large and deep chips, but I gave it a go anyways. I ended up reasonably satisfied...not ecstatic, but it turned out better than I thought it would.

Bob K...Thanks for the article. They were fun to do. I would post a pic, but my 4 year old grandson was up visiting us from FL around Thanksgiving. He liked them and they are down south now. When we went down for Christmas, he had them hanging on his own personal tree....

Burning lines with BLO?
Hey there! I have gotten ahead of myself. I have applied the BLO to my carving and am getting ready to paint it (which I always dread). I am now thinking that I would like to try to burn in some lines to help keep paint lines in place, etc. Is it a bad idea to burn after the BLO is on or is it OK? I...
