Send those tools to somebody reputable to be sharpened. Tools like that need to be sharpened only when damaged. Once properly sharpened, the average carver (and I mean at a hobbyist level) should only need to strop to clean the edges and polish the surfaces. I have never used his services, but someone...

You can also transfer a laser print to wood using acetone. Combine that with mirroring the image and you have a pretty good way of transferring the image. https://www.littlebighappythings.com...fer-onto-wood/

If it was thicker than 3" I would say some type of candy dish etc. But by the time you get done with making a dish out of it, I suspect it will be between 2 and 3 inches higher.
For now, I'd let it sit where it could soak up some moisture to maybe swell some of those cracks close....

I just Googled on Statlander carving and I came up with this: https://stadtlandercarvings.com which opened immediately.

I just pick the chips out when I'm done carving and smack it against my leg to get the small ones I missed. It works for me. And if I miss a chip, maybe I'll get it next time. It really doesn't matter much to meeee.....

I could be wrong but a hollow ground knife could be used to carve wood as long as it's sharp. Strop and carve.

I've been on this forum for a long time now. And I've been getting WCI mag since then too. I have all the issues and still go through them from time to time.
I can agree with you Daliab. I can tell you, in my mind, the older issues had more interesting info but also, a lot more advertising....
