Nice carving, Ed! The wood grain looks beautiful. Redwood tends to split and splinter so you can't really carve anything with much detail.

BLO is very dangerous to use because of it's combustibility hazard. People have almost burned their shops down due to using BLO. BLO also darkens over time and will eventually darken your carvings. I prefer to use walnut oil. It's more expensive to buy but cheaper than burning your house down. Unlike...
