i started carving with knife, and immediately cut myself, ,,,but then i switched to chisels,,, i never cut myself, since i use gouges and chisels, and that is already 3 1/2 year ...impossible to cut yourself with those, since the work is fixed on table, and both hands...

exactely this is how i do it too... when i start thinking about grain direction, i seem not to be able to carve clean,,,when i stop thinking, but simply feel how the chisels cut, grain direction is never a problem....

well, i for one dislike the new way the pictures present too. i need wait for loading them. before, i was able to read other posts while the images loaded in background. and when they finsihed doing that, i could look them like i wanted...now, the viewer does tricks...

hi jbergs... here are some projects on wci you can follow to see how we do it... to your points,,, yes 1, yes 2 if needed, yes 3 and bosting means finding the basic rough shapes, and, make stopcuts not too deep at the begiining, so you have room the improve...
