Nice work, Tim. You might like to see the eagles of John Shortell on his website. Here 's a War of 1812 Eagle I carved a few years ago, using a bit of color while leaving the eagle gold:

Well, I hesitate to "bite the hand that feeds me" by sponsoring this forum, but I'll add my two cents worth (adjusted for inflation, worth about zero).
After several years of subscribing, I did not renew. WCI just does not fit my needs, as I'm not interested in carving caricatures,...

It's a shame we lost so many photos and pictures from the hack. I really like to go back and see all the faces that go with the names we all know...but I wonder why there are so many no longer on the site, folks that contributed so much.

I've had great wood and service from George at the best prices, so I agree with Ed about Loess. I did get one piece of butternut that wasn't cut square and I emailed George...he immediately responded with an apology and sent a replacement piece. Of course, Heinecke has great wood, too, but they are...

Merle, I'm not surprised that the green pine held up like that. I'm still hitting roots with my mower from a huge pine tree I had removed over twenty years ago...they're still as sappy and hard as when they were live....

Well done, Scott. What type of wood, and what tools did you use to hollow it out?
