I have done several outdoor shows. The first picture is of my booth with a buddy helping out.
I upgraded to a straight-sided 10x10 canopy with four sides. This helps with sun, wind, and rain. This comes with stake-down plates for the feet, but I also purchased canopy sand-bags that hang...

Jason,
So many systems and so little time to learn them all. Good news.... you only need to learn one. Any chance you live near other carvers, or a club, where you can get some hands-on experience?
I have several sharpeners and picked up one with the slotted, paper wheel...

Beautiful work!
I personally don't care for single threads to cover many different projects. I also don't care for indescriptive thread titles. Both make it difficult for others to do searches when trying to find a particular project or subject matter..... but then, it might just be ...

+1 on Loess Hills and Heinecke. Don't think you'd get a bad piece from either place... and if you did, they'd take care of you.
Couple years ago, I stopped by Loess Hills and asked George about 6x6x48 inch piece on the rack. He said he wouldn't sell that to me because it was too hard...

Sounds like it could be a Pfingst brand.... a Foredom look-alike. All the hand pieces were interchangeable and used same chuck keys. A picture would help.

Yes, they will. But you will need an adapter cable (M-F) to make it work. Razer-tip sells them.

Or, if you're handy, you can make your own, as I do.Last edited by dave.keele; 02-11-2022, 06:38 PM.

My first thought was to advise you to fix the eyes, but guess I don't need to. ;>) Please show us progress/finished photos. You're off to a great start.
This thread is a great example of why I visit this site most every morning.

Man and woman walks into my booth at crafts fair. Woman: You tried carving once, right? Man: Yea... cut myself twice in first hour, so gave it up. ...What's wrong with that picture?
In my opening remarks, during beginner classes, I tell students: it's my opinion that beginners quit...

Christmas presents 2021
Each year I carve something for my three grandchildren. This year the girls (9 & 10) each received a Carolina Wren and the boy (8) received a Black Capped Chickadee. All are life-size, power carved from tupelo, and painted with acrylics. The legs and feet, plant, and barbed-wire were made from copper....Last edited by dave.keele; 12-30-2021, 03:32 PM.

I agree with Mike. The other thing you need to consider with the Tormek, or any brand sharpener that uses jigs that hold the tool on the round, outer edge of the wheel, is the end result will be a concave bevel. This is what you want on wood-lathe tools, but not so good for carving tools. And, of...

Oh, heck. End of an era. Hate to see the Gretna workshop end. I was an integral part of getting that started back when I was president of the Lincoln Club in 1983. Bill Butterfield was the facility contact and organizer that first year. When we didn't have enough carvers signed up to break even, I talked...
