Finished Eagle Carving Maybe?
I finished this carving late last fall and forgot to post. It was based off of some pictures from an all-white piece in an antique auction. It is the largest caving that I have made at about 18 inches wide and tall. I had to glue up two pieces of 4-inch thick basswood for the blank. I used a bandsaw...Last edited by PittsburghTim; 05-22-2022, 05:24 PM.

Corn Pop doesn't look like the kind of guy that terrorized the swimming pools of Delaware back in the day. He appears to be friendly and rather good natured!

I received an e-mail while I was at work, yesterday and placed an order last night! I have three of their knives and some palm tools and all have been very nicely made and they take and hold a nice edge. In fact, all I have done is stropping since I have owned them.

The carving is beautiful and the finish is an excellent representation of the original. Very impressive!

A very nice article and, in my view, has a lot of merit. Even though I am an electrical engineer, nothing in my work brings me the joy and satisfaction than spending my time off in my garage workshop carving away on my latest project....

My father served just after WWII came to a close and again in the Korean War on the USS Wisconsin. The entire deck was covered with teak. I can only imagine the board feet required for that. He was not very fond of scrubbing it on occasion, but he said it was a nice break from fire control dutie...

Punxsutawney Phil was correct. We are expecting 6-8 inches of snow overnight into Saturday morning here in Pittsburgh. I pity my Irish friends marching in the St. Patrick's Day parade....

I've had a few nights/early mornings like that, but never for a few decades!
Good luck with your recovery, Becky. I've had to give up golf as I was having horrible problems. It can be hard to think of much else when you have something like this. I hope that you find the relief that you...

Randy, I made eye punches from a brass round tube assortment but, was disappointed with their cutting action. I ended up using a saw file to file some saw-like teeth in them and found that pressing them in a bit and then rotating back and forth made them more controllable.
That being said,...

I paid $4.59/gallon here in Pittsburgh today for premium. Inflation is the most insidious form of tax. It hits those, who earn the least, harder than anyone.

A very good first effort! Here is a pic that may have the look for which you are going. To echo DiLeon's comments, you may want smaller eyes more to the sides. I would suggest using a pencil to sort of draw in the eyes before you start carving again. This way you can erase and redraw until you get...

Very nice work, Merle. Walnut is one of my favorite woods for building furniture, though I have never tried to carve it. Do you carve these for use in mind or more of a collectible/different form to display your artistic talents or both?...
