I have few carving knives and less experience. The one that I have found most comfortable so far is the new Allan Goodman knife I got just two weeks ago. The rear finger slot seems to just "fit" more comfortably.

Received my first Allen Goodman knife yesterday. Didn't get a chance to work with it until this evening. Absolutely a wonderful knife. Got a 1 5/8" upsweep with the 6 inch handle.

As a new carver, I did not think there could be much difference. Basswood is basswood. I bought a box of 2x2x6 inch stock, on ebay, from a supplier in WV. I also had some given to me that came from somewhere in TN. I fought it for a month.

I have used them for different occasions. I find them at any good trophy shop. They are not expensive. Most jeweler's will also make them up but charge a lot more.
