Back online finally!
Hi all, I've missed being here for a few months (since November), but I'm glad to be back. Shop life stopped when Jozey came home, and now that I have been laid off, I hope to get back to carving a bit more. Lot's to catch up on. I hope everyone is well. We are fine here in Wisconsin, but not liking...

Good for you! Maybe a Google search for Beginner Whittling Projects or Swiss Army Knife Whittling will turn up some ideas. Your knife is probably sharp enough for now, but it might be best to find an adult who can help you sharpen it. Out of the box, it will require a lot of effort to carve with. I'm...Last edited by Unclescott; 08-13-2019, 03:43 PM.

Yes, you can whittle with one. The first thing I do with mine is to grind off the key ring dohickey if it has one. The second thing is to sharpen the blade to carving sharp, which is different than cutting paper / opening boxes sharp. There is a book of whittling with a swiss army knife, you might want...

Thanks all for the advice. I ordered a coarse tapered cone shape rasp style, a carbide monster bit medium, and a diamond fine set just to get started. I'll try these while I save some cash. After reading thru 105 pages of posts I see where a set would be pointless.
Ordered from Woodcarvers Su...Last edited by Unclescott; 08-11-2019, 02:56 PM.

I have about 50$ to spend. Already have plenty of sanding drums and cones. I'm thinking of rasps and good quality bits that...

"In naval architecture, the tumblehome is the narrowing of a ship's hull with greater distance above the water-line. Expressed more technically, it is present when the beam at the uppermost deck is less than the maximum beam of the vessel." - Wikipedia

Carver's Apron?
My wife tells me that I need to get an apron as I am tracking chips up into the house and stuff is getting embedded in my shirt. Does anyone have a suggestion, favorite, or alternate solution? Basically I am leaning back in my office style chair and carving up on my chest with my magnifiers on so I...

Thanks! I'm assuming that I will have to decide which way he will be looking first, and make the arches off center to follow the eyes, correct? One closer to the nose, and one more toward the outer corner of the eye is what I was thinking....
