Sharpening gouges

First of all, thank you all for your responses. I have found a local bladesmith and arranged with him to make me 2 helvie lookalike knives, regarding blade measurement and handle. Now I need to search here for some begginer projects.

Thank you for your answers. I guess I don't have enough confidence to sharpen a round bevel on a flat surface. To much room for error, being that I don't have that routine yet. I will give it a go with a block of wood for stropping and sharpening. And practice on some gouges I don't really use.

Hello woodcarvers, I am sure that this question was asked already, so if someone could point me to the post, if there is one. How do you sharpen gouges that are V, U shape and with various degree of roundness? What are tips and tricks? Is it possible to use flat surface (sandpaper on glass), and if...

Those are some extremely low angles. Just to be sure, because I am not to familiar with English pronunciation, included angle degree means angle for one side?...

I have wet sendpaper mounted on a glass, so I practice my strokes... i think being string musician helps a little. The thing here is not so price of a knife, just the fact that Two cherries is 12$, while detail flexcut is20$, and I am not sure that the difference in price is backed by qualitie....

Hello woodcarvers, I have a newbie question. Will it be too much hassle to whittle with these kind of knives, in terms of their edge profile...
