I live in Dahlonega, GA. Not far from Blue Ridge, and I go there a lot too.
You'll enjoy the white pine up here for carving quite a bit. It's my favorite. Cedar is beautiful, but that stuff can make you really sick if you breathe...

Thrones for my son's wedding
I've been working on these two thrones, carved in white pine, for nearly 6 months. They are finally finished, and my son's wedding was last Saturday.
The wedding was rather "theatrical", so the thrones played an important role, and I was flattered that my son wanted me to do them....
