Getting a dusty look
Hey there.
I\'m painting a rodeo cowboy. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to achieve a dusty look on his clothing? I\'m using acrylics and don\'t have an air brush. My first thought is dry brushing the figure with a stiff brush.
thanks,

Re: Some Beautiful Carvings
Great work. I wonder where I could buy a hunk of that wood? It would be fun to try abstract carving in wood.

Re: Thinking about a micro motor tool
Thanks for the input. I primarily use hand tools. Not because I am a total purist but because I don\'t like the noise and dust of my power tools. I also have a flex shaft tool that is very handy a times. Right now it\'s getting a workout on stone...

Thinking about a micro motor tool
Hey there,
i\'m thinking about purchasing a micro motor tool. I thought it would be handy for fine detail and texture. I have concerns however that it may be more trouble than it\'s worth. They appear to be fussy, over priced gadgets that have frequent issues and poor warrantees.
So,...

Re: Poor Mans Vise
If you have Woodsmith magazine they printed plans for a nice bench as well as a swivel vise. It\'s the June/July issue 2015.

Woodcarving in Las Vegas
Hey there,
we just held our first meeting of as many of the local carving clubs as we could find. It seems that there are quite a few but they don\'t advertise. We ended up with 24 folks in attendance from 5 clubs. I thought we would be lucky to get half that.
Our first meeting was just...

Re: Ready to scream!
I've found that in situations like your that drinking helps. After a good martini the scroll saw is not such an issue. On a serious note, I had a low end scrollsaw once. The day I threw it away was one of my better ones. I found a used Hegner saw on line and never...

Re: Pfeil Swiss-made caving tools.
Get in touch with Rick Wieb up there in Canada. He has better prices and a larger selection of pfeil tools than woodcraft. Now is a good time to buy them.

Re: Carving Club
Ours meets twice weekly. The guys and gals who cannot make it on Saturday often come on Tuesday.
We have a president and a collection of sacred bylaws that we follow. The biggest of these is that if you cut yourself you owe a dollar. Five if you need stitches....

Re: Missing Something…
Do a google search and look up facial proportions. I have found a few diagrams that have helped me over the years. As people we key in on the face instinctively. We notice things that are off a bit. It's ok to distort for effect once you have the basics down....
