Not saying you're wrong, Eddy, but what if a guy has more than just carving tools to sharpen? I got tired of buying new planer blades at $40 a pop because the local shop took 4 weeks to sharpen them, and I had handplane irons and chisels...

The problem I always have with wooden wheels is, they're round when you turn them but get out of round when they dry out (from the heat caused by friction in use). Especially our local wild cherry, which turns into a Pringle shape.

I got one in a $5 box of stuff from a S. Dakota auction a couple years ago. I thought it was kool but it only had 4 blades. Looked to me like it wouldn't be too tough to make some more blades, but I never did.
